Floating Wetlands - What are they?

Information Only - DO NOT BUY HERE.

The usual strategy for planting a pond is to plant aquatic plants around the shallow shoreline. These plants, being aquatic, can often spread rapidly and encroach into the open water of the pond and spoil its appearance. Wouldn't it be better to plant these aggressive aquatic plants in Floating Wetlands? Floating Wetlands control aggressive growth of plants by isolating them. In this way, the plants are put to good use consuming pond pollution. Floating Wetlands are available with and without plants. A good rule of thumb is 8 full-size (48"-54") Floating Wetlands per 1/4 acre. It is highly recommended that the Floating Wetlands be used in conjunction with bottom diffuser aeration to multiply the rafts' nutrient-uptake ability. The foliar biomass should be removed at the end of the growing season to reduce pond pollution. The Wetlands can be attached to each other to create an interesting shape. Likewise, they can be tethered to a ring (a 6' diameter tether ring is optional) or deployed individually -See our Floating Wetland 8 Raft Cluster in this same section for a full explanation of how the rafts can be attached and launched together as one unit. The rafts and plants can be shipped directly to your installation site via our trucks or common-carrier. Floating Wetlands are designed to hold coir (coconut) fiber inserts or plastic pots. Choose the style that best suits your needs. They fit a shipping pallet and can be stacked up to 30 per pallet. If creeping type plants are used on the raft perimeter, the plants will grow several feet past the raft edge increasing plant coverage up to 65-70 sq. ft. per raft. No matter the particular raft chosen, the plants will cover it completely, making the actual raft invisible to the viewer. Floating Wetlands are made of polyethylene foam and are durable, as well as, freeze resistant. Refer to our catalogs or websites or call us for ordering plants.
